ACTIVIST| SURVIVOR| ADVOCATE

“I had a choice to get bitter, or get better. I chose to get better…While I couldn’t change what happened to me on May 4, 2021, maybe I could change the future for someone else, and end
drunk driving for good.”

Tess Rowland

MEET TESS

May 4, 2021, was supposed to be just a normal Tuesday for TV Journalist, Tess Rowland. She was on her way to work in Panama City Beach when all of the sudden she saw bright headlights, followed by blackness.

Tess was hit head on by a wrong-way drunk driver.

After 7 surgeries and severe life-changing injuries, She transformed this tragic moment into her life's mission.

Tess became a passionate volunteer for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). She tirelessly worked to raise awareness of impaired driving through engaging fundraisers and news stories. She also worked with local law enforcement and advocated for more DUI enforcement in the Panhandle.

Tess went on to receive an Emmy nomination for her ability to shed light on the impact of drunk driving on victims.

Many are surprised Tess lived, but she had a bigger purpose than she could have ever imagined. This defining moment in her life catapulted her into a different light than this young journalist was used to.  Since the tragedy, she has risen from victim to victor and most recently served as the National President of Mother's Against Drunk Driving.

Tess now resides in Houston, Texas, and has brought her message to the national level. She’s been featured on Good Morning America, News Nation, Teen Vogue, Discovery Education, and Today.com.
